“Supporting Our Schools” campaign presented by Telemundo Las Vegas and La Bonita Supermarkets raises nearly $26,000 for CIS of Southern Nevada

Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada (CIS) has received nearly $26,000 in monetary donations, thanks to a collaborative month-long campaign known as “Supporting Our Schools,” (“Apoyando A Nuestras Escuelas”) presented by Telemundo Las Vegas and La Bonita Supermarkets.

La Bonita secured participation from several vendors who generously agreed to donate a portion of their product sales to “Supporting Our Schools.” Vendors included Jarritos, Dutch Farms Cheese, FUD, Bonita products and Los Altos. Shoppers interested in directly participating were invited to make monetary donations upon checkout.

“Supporting Our Schools” campaign is a nationwide effort conceived by NBCUniversal-owned television stations located in 20 markets across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The campaign seeks to raise awareness for classroom needs and how communities can help students and teachers. Given the ongoing pandemic and its staggering effect on vulnerable families, students valley-wide rely on support such as that generated through awareness campaigns like “Supporting Our Schools.” Since 2017, NBC and Telemundo owned stations in the U.S., and Puerto Rico have raised more than $4.5 million in cash and collected nearly one million school supplies for teachers and students in need.

The work of CIS is critical given that Nevada ranks 45th in the nation for education, according to the KIDS COUNT data book released by the Annie E. Casey Foundation for 2020-2021. CIS literally brings the community into schools to provide students with the services and resources they need to alleviate outside pressures and encourage them to stay in school. CIS’ long-term vision is for every child enrolled in a Title I School to have access to a site coordinator and an Integrated Student Support, otherwise known as wraparound services.
