In a country where nearly 7,000 students drop out of school every day, Communities In Schools is working to alter the educational landscape by providing prevention and intervention services that address the underlying reasons why students leave school without a diploma. The CIS model is based on the simple premise that it’ not just WHAT you do but HOW you do it.
Communities In Schools of Nevada empowers students to learn in school so that they can achieve in life. Our end goal is for each child to graduate high school with a plan for the future, and the skills and knowledge needed to implement that plan. However, evidence-based research tells us that children who do not receive basic, necessary services have limited chances for success in school. Our programming ensures that youth receive the academic, health and human services they need in the current moment to propel them to a successful future.

Through the use of school-based site coordinators, Communities In Schools assess academic and social service needs of their youth. We then design plans for meeting those needs, using existing resources in our community and strategically link the two to give students the resources they need. Rather than students and their families being sent across town to access these resources, they are brought to the students on site; ensuring compliance and a successful outcome.
The result – CIS students that get what they need to succeed in school and in life and barriers to their education are lifted.
Delivery Model
Communities In Schools of Nevada works with its schools individually to determine which service are most required to meet student needs. Then our staff develops a site plan with the school staff to identify and meet these needs, coordinates with community agencies and brings them to the school site rather than send families across town to access services.
